What I loved:  That Dr. Nancy radiates and embodies youth, health and beauty.  She is living testament to what she preaches,

This was the most enjoyable and practical 70 minutes I've spent in a long time.

It was so exciting to hear this knowledge…a dream come true for me.  I have been seeing doctors for many years at one of the most prestigious medical university centers in the world, and I had the distinct feeling when Dr. Nancy was speaking that what she was saying was the truth.  At this point in my life she is the best doctor I have ever heard speak…thank you…thank you…thank you!!!

I loved how much useful knowledge was presented so blissfully and clearly and fully and how readily digestible and absorbable and fun was all the knowledge presented. Also the interviewer was perfect with the questions--and summaries.

Being a student currently about to give a presentation of what I’ve learned, I know it takes quite alot to make a presentation that engages the audience fully and teaches them even a few concepts. I felt your presentation was A+++.

You packed in so much the time flew by and every word and second was perfect. I really enjoyed it and was very inspired about all the tips given. Thank you very much. You both are brilliant.

I was very very pleased with all the knowledge and wisdom you so generously shared on the call. Time went by so fast and I am happy there will be other calls.
Everything you said, either refreshed some knowledge I had forgotten about, or was totally new. Either way, it made a good impression and I am determined to follow your advises.

I loved the entire seminar.  It is always wonderful to hear this knowledge.  I also loved the fact that everyone listening was from all over the world.

I particularly loved the way Dr. Nancy covered each and every topic in-depth!.  Just when I thought she was finished explaining a procedure, she would surprise me with even more information!

I look forward to the next teleconference.

What I loved was connecting with Truth in health. It all makes so much sense on a very real level. Dr. Nancy's expertise is very apparent and it's fun to hear this knowledge.

Number one tip I started applying right away was taking a morning walk before work.
What a dramatic change in my energy level and luck!! I feel bright, and so happy I could feel my mouth spontaneously moving up into a smile.

My students even commented to me that I looked pretty.  My family is also having luck with reaching their goals as another side-effect!  I'm enjoying my life so much more.

Thank you Dr. Nancy for that tremendous tip.

I thought this was a really valuable presentation.  It s easy to access as a webcast, which I appreciated a lot since not every presentation that's advertised as such is actually readily available.   I'm looking forward to the next presentation.

The Maharishi Ayurveda Approach
to Chronic Upper Respiratory Infections:
Bronchitis, Sinusitis and Colds

In bronchitis and sinusitis there is some foreign agent that creates a reaction by the body in the nasal or bronchial area. The foreign agent may be a chronic bacterial or viral infection or allergen that activates the allergic response. However the Ayurvedic approach does not focus on what the aggravating agent is and rather focuses on why that agent has come to exist in the body. The Ayurveda approach focuses more on the health status of the host than on the invading bacteria or allergen.

If the person has bronchitis or sinusitis due to chronic infection then the Ayurvedic approach is to change the host in a way that prevents the infection. This is different than the modern medical approach which wants to attack the invader with powerful and often toxic drugs.

Ayurveda addresses two issues in the case of chronic infection.

1. Why is the internal environment of the body such a good home for the infection?

It is only when there is an accumulation of mucous, heaviness and impurities that the body becomes predisposed to growing bacteria and viruses in large quantities. The Ayurvedic approach is to improve diet, digestion and metabolism to prevent the accumulation of mucous, heaviness and impurities that make such a good media for the infecting agents to live.

2. Why is the immune response so weak it is not able to prevent the invading organisms from growing?

We have all had the experience of being in an office or group situation where one person gets a cold or cough and then later several others do. The point here is that all are equally exposed to the infecting agents but only some fall sick.  This is why Ayurveda sees these conditions as host problems and not invader problems.  Only certain people have low enough immunity and a high degree of impurities that allow the infection to take hold. The Ayurvedic approach is to help the immune system be more strong and the individual less susceptible to stress.

The other main issue to address in an Ayurvedic approach to chronic upper respiratory disorders is reducing the level of toxic chemicals aggravating the area and the excessive allergic reaction that often results in their presence.

The key to this issue is to reduce the body's own production and accumulation of waste and impurities in the tissues.  When tissues accumulate impurities and the impurities also block circulation to the tissues then the ground for many diseases including upper respiratory infections is laid.  It is these internally created toxins that can aggravate the tissues and create an allergic response. The less toxins and wastes in the tissues, the less symptoms experienced by the individual. Job 1 in the Ayurvedic approach is to prevent the impurities from being created due to poor eating habits and digestion and to cleanse the tissues of the already accumulated toxins.

Preventing and Treating Bronchitis, Sinusitis and Chronic Cold

A. Diet and Eating Behavior to Prevent the Buildup of Toxins and Impurities

1. Eat warm food. Heated food is much easier to digest than cold food. Ayurveda recommends we eat fresh food freshly prepared.

2. Avoid leftovers. Once food has been heated and then gets put back in the refrigerator it becomes hard to digest and very clogging in nature.

3. Reduce or avoid heavy, hard to digest foods like cheeses, meats, potatoes, desserts and most milk products

4. Eat the largest meal of the day at lunch, between 12:30 and 1:30, when the digestion is strongest. The sun, the heat element in nature, enlivens Agni, the fire of digestion and metabolism. At the height of the day our digestion is strongest and Ayurveda simply recommends eat the largest meal when you are most capable of digesting it.

5. Drink hot water frequently throughout the day.  Hot water flowing through the physiology helps open the circulation and wash away impurities from the tissues. Regular hot water drinking has a wonderful cleansing effect on all the tissues.

6. Avoid eating heavy meals in the evening. The single biggest contribution to toxins and clogging in the body comes from heavy evening meals. Agni is much weaker in the evening and it is vitally important to eat lighter meals. Also after dinner there is often only 2-3 hours before we lie to sleep and further slow, circulation and digestion.

7. Add spices to your diet that improve digestion and metabolism. Fresh ginger root, ground pepper and cumin all help Agni, the fire of digestion and metabolism. However, you must use them in quantity that does not cause excessive heating and discomfort to your body.

Behavioral Approaches to Enhancing Immunity and Resistance to Stress

1. Go to bed by 10:00 P.M. Between 10:00 PM and 2 AM the bodies natural rhythms enliven the metabolic process of internal cleansing. If we are always active at this time we are short-changing the body on its natural cleansing activities and toxins ama starts to accumulate. Good sleep is also important for reversing stress. Almost everyone with upper respiratory disorders experiences that if they are under excess stress their condition flares up. There is no technique for helping the body adapt to stress that is more powerful than going to bed by 10:00 PM.

2. Have a regular routine of life. Eating, sleeping, working and exercising at about the same time each day is very balancing and stabilizing to the nervous system and immune response. Resistance lowers, and infections and allergies increase, when routine of life is hectic and scattered.

3. Practice Yoga asanas and meditation. Yogas asanas and meditation (I recommend the TM technique because of its ease of practice and scientific verification) are very balancing to all aspects of mind and body and have been used by many people to increase resistance to stress and reduce chronic sinusitis, bronchitis and colds.

Summary

Focus on proper lifestyle, diet and cleansing regimens to remove the the conditions that predispose you to chronic bronchitis, sinusitis and cold.
